J. William Rice Jr. April 6, 1929 – June 26, 2013
J. William “Bill” Rice, Jr. of Levittown, died on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at Chandler Hall in Newtown. He was 84. Born and raised in Philadelphia, Mr. Rice has been a resident of Levittown since 1953. He worked at U.S. Steel for 27 years until retiring in 1984. After retiring, Bill worked at Beck O’Neill, Strouse Funeral Home and James J. Dougherty Funeral Home both in Levittown for many years.
Mr. Rice was a long time active member of Emilie United Methodist Church where he was a teacher for 40 years and served as an usher and trustee. He was a 57 year charter member of the Levittown Fire Company #2 where he served as a Lieutenant of the Fire Police and he was also a 25 year member of the Levittown Bristol Kiwanis. For many years Bill served as a ward commissioner in Bristol Township where he was also on the school authority and was appointed to the school board. He also served as treasurer and secretary of the Green Lynn Civic Association He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Beloved husband of 61 years to the late Jeanne, Bill was the loving father of Barbara (Frank) Piscitello of Reading, James W., III (Karen) of Warminster, Richard E. (Debbie) of Fort Wayne, IN and the late Sandra Leigh. He was the devoted grandfather of Frank (Kelly), Jeff, Jason, Bryan, Shannon and Brianna and the great grandfather of Aleks and Abby. He was the brother of Elizabeth Polmateer and will also be sadly missed by several nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to call on Monday from 9:30 until 11 a.m. at Emilie United Methodist Church, 7300 New Falls Rd., Levittown where his funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Emilie United Methodist Church Cemetery.
